Dinner at Aria, Bonifacio High Street

Been daydreaming about our upcoming Boracay trip, and I can’t wait to go.  I suggested having dinner at Aria since it’s a place I associate with Boracay!

John tried to make reservations over the phone, and they said they were fully booked.  But we decided to walk in without reservations and we were seated right away.  Whats up with that?

Cokes and toast while deciding what to eat.

We started with the Insalata di Salmone Affimicato e Rucola, which is mixed greens and organic arugula with smoked salmon in a balsamic vinagraitte dressing.  I love smoked salmon and I love arugula, and I never thought I would say this but I wish they had put in less arugula and more of the mixed greens(hardly any at all) to counter the bitterness.  And definitely more salmon please.

We couldn’t decide on a pizza, so we ended up going for the Quattro Staggioni Pizza, a selection of four of Aria’s bestselling pizzas: aria (parma ham), boscaiola (ham and mushroom), napoli (anchovies), and frutti di mare (seafood).

Pizza is excellent and just as good as I remember!  The crust is perfection, and my only complaint is that the various toppings were strewn about so haphazardly and messily that even our server couldn’t identify which pizza was which.  For example, there seemed to be only 1 pizza slice with parma ham when there were supposed to be two.

I prefer the meat pizzas (aria and boscaiola) over the seafood ones.

They also have a really good chili oil, as well as Parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes.

John and I shared both the pizza and our main course, Fettina di Manzo alla Puttanesca.

Beef tenderloin topped with olives, capers, garlic, and tomatoes.  Decent but nothing to rave about.  We plan to just share an appetizer and two whole pizzas next time.

A lot of people are happy to have Boracay’s best restaurants opening here in Manila, but I’m a bit torn about it, because that means I won’t be as excited to eat there anymore when we do end up in Bora.  But so long as not all of my favorites end up in Manila, I’m pretty happy to now have easier access to Aria’s delish woode-fire oven pizzas.
