I’ve loved Sonja’s Cupcakes ever since they opened in Serendra, over five years ago. In my opinion they serve not just the prettiest, but the best cupcakes ever.
There was so much (well-deserved) hype about Sonja’s when they first opened, and I was part of it! John and I would often have dinner at The Fort then walk to Sonja’s for dessert. Back then I also loved giving Sonja’s cupcakes as presents, or taking home a lone cupcake in a pretty blue box as a treat for myself. As the years passed I had my cupcake fix less and less because I rarely found myself in that part of The Fort anymore. But one day when I happened to be in the area, I decided I would go cupcake shopping again! I was kind of worried that maybe the customer base had waned and I wanted to show my support.
I shouldn’t have worried. I went on a scorching Wenesday afternoon, and Sonja’s little shop was packed with customers! I had to wait in line quite awhile before placing my order, and finally getting my cupcakes. I’m happy to see that Sonja’s Cupcakes is still doing well after all this time. They never opened another store beyond this one little shop, and the fact that they haven’t exploded into a megachain adds to the appeal.
This is my favorite of all their cupcakes – Berries and Cream, brown butter and almond cupcake topped with fresh strawberries and cream. Sooooo good.
